National award highlights University’s commitment to gender equality

The University of Lincoln has been recognised for its dedication to gender equality with a Silver Athena Swan Award. The University received its first Bronze Athena Swan Award in 2014. Ten years on, we celebrate our first institutional silver award and the progress this represents towards gender equality. The University is one of a select number of UK universities to achieve a silver award.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science

As we celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science this February, I am struck by some of the gender equality problems women still face in STEM. The United Nations, who promote the event, say that even in 2023 women are still under-represented in fields such as engineering and computer science. And those female scientists who do persist, tend to have shorter, less well-paid careers and are often passed over for promotion

There is an alleyway in Leeds where I live, that I now know in my head as ‘the r*pe alley’. It didn’t used to be this way – well it did, but I just didn’t know it yet. It was just the alleyway I used to get home, used to go to school or work. It was convenient, decorated in spray paint tags and color bursts and tree covered. I walked this alley so many times in the dark, alone after having just parted ways with friends, and at those times, I didn’t feel frightened

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
