Women’s History Month 2024

March is Women's History Month and a time to highlight and reflect on how women have historically been discriminated against and overlooked both in their daily lives, in the historical record and for their contributions across society. It is a time to re-evaluate and challenge how the past has been presented and to celebrate the achievements of women, past and present.

During March the University of Lincoln will be holding two public events which focus on women in sport, an area of life where women have traditionally been maginalised, overlooked and excluded:

International Women’s Day Event

  • Date: Thursday 7 March 2024
  • Venue:  Ross Lucas Medical Building
  • Time: 6:30pm–9.30pm (food and drinks included)

The Girls to Women in Sport Science (GWSS) Network are excited to partner with the Lincolnshire FA and the QuickLine Lincolnshire Women & Girls League for the 2024 edition of the International Women’s Day celebration event, following the success of the Women in the Game event last year.

Gender, Sport & Society: What is Happening and Why?

  • Date:  Wednesday 20 March 2024
  • Venue:  LMS0008,  Ross Lucas Medical Building
  • Time:  5pm–7pm (drinks reception 6-7pm)

You are invited to join Professor Hanya Pielichaty for this public lecture to celebrate the publication of her latest book, Gender, Sport and Society: An Introduction. The complex relationship between gender, sport and society will be examined closely, using props and visual aids to better understand why the current sporting landscape exists as it does. Sports enthusiasts, university colleagues, students, and sports practitioners are all welcome to attend the event, either face-to-face or online.
