Trans Awareness Week 2023

Each year between November 13–19, we participate in Transgender Awareness Week. This is a week when transgender people and their allies take action to bring attention to the trans community by educating the public about who transgender people are, sharing stories and experiences, and advancing advocacy around issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that affect the transgender community

LGBTQ+ Inclusion in STEM

The Eleanor Glanville Institute and the California Academy of Sciences have received funding from the Royal Society of Chemistry and the UK Science and Innovation Network in the USA to carry out research into LGBTQ+ inclusion in STEM. The project will launch its international Climate Survey on 9 November 2023 at the 13th Annual oSTEM conference in Anaheim, CA, USA. The UK launch will take place at the Royal Society of Chemistry, Burlington House, London on 20 November 2023

Lincoln Black History Trail

Follow Lincoln's Black History Trail and discover our multicultural history. Lincoln’s Black History Trail is a reminder that this city has always been diverse and multicultural. There are eight stops on the trail - numbered in sequence but the stops can be visited in any order. The trail will take under an hour. Towards a Care-Inclusive University

As we celebrate International Day of Families we can also celebrate the greater visibility of families within higher education environments. As I walk around Brayford Campus it’s wonderful to see students and staff bringing family members to enjoy our green spaces, cafés and eateries. Research shows, however, that there is a long way to go before education institutions become fully inclusive to families, carers and parents.

World Cancer Day: Close the Care Gap

World Cancer Day is a global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). They aim to raise awareness, improve education and to catalyse personal, collective and government action. The theme for World Cancer Day is Close the Care Gap and it is a 3-year campaign with 2022 focusing on ‘Realising the problem’ and 2023 focusing on Uniting our voices and Taking Action’. Intersex Awareness Day 2022

Intersex Awareness Day is celebrated internationally on 26th October annually to raise awareness about the human rights violations faced by people with an intersex variation. In recent history, children with an intersex variation have been subjected to non-consensual, irreversible, cosmetic genital surgery to make their genitals appear more typical. Many of these medical interventions are known to cause long-lasting, traumatic after-effects.

Black History Month 2022

Every year, every October, we celebrate Black History Month across the University and across the UK. First celebrated in the UK in 1987, Black History Month gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture ─ how those with African and Caribbean heritage have for centuries played a fundamental role in British history. Remember what they have contributed, what they have achieved. Reflect on whether their contributions are recognised, valued, or are they ignored, forgotten?
