Reflections on what’s changed about coming out as a trans young person

Raising the Flag to LGBTQ+ History Month

LGBT+ history month happens every February. Its mission is to promote equality and diversity through improving the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities and stories, raising awareness of, and educating people about, relevant issues and making institutions safe spaces for all LGBTQ+ people. This year’s theme is ‘Body, Mind and Spirit’, and in recognition of the challenging times we are currently living through, we will be promoting mental health and wellbeing as part of our celebrations this year.

It is, however, the first time a Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to two female scientists, and it is only the third time in over a hundred years that a Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to a woman that is not shared with a male colleague!

Covid-19 has certainly thrown a spotlight on the structural inequalities in our society (and in many cases entrenching them). Our recent submission to the UK Parliament's Women and Equalities Committee outlines the unequal impact of COVID-19 on women and black and minority ethnic (BAME) groups.
