Diwali 2021: Arti, Ardas and Sharing of Food
04 Nov
Isaac Newton Building
Diwali is the Indian festival of lights, usually lasting five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance"
Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya
— Lead me from darkness to light
As a festival important to Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, this Diwali celebration will start with the reciting of the Laxmi Mata Aarti, Ardas and Navkar Mantra in front of a decorated home mandir, followed by sharing some Indian vegetarian food and sweets.
Please feel free to wear traditional attire and all are requested to bring a covering for their head (scarf, large hankerchief or chundari) for the Sikh Ardas prayer.
This celebration is open to University of Lincoln staff and students only — for those celebrating Diwali as part of their faith
