Professor Anna Tarrant: Envisioning a father-inclusive UK
30 Nov
Cargill Lecture Theatre, Minerva Building, University of Lincoln
Unprecedented shifts towards involved and engaged fatherhoods are being observed globally with dads spending more time than ever with their children. Yet many men remain challenged in their ambitions to be there for their families and to engage in their family lives in the ways they want to. In this Be Inspired! public lecture, Professor Anna Tarrant, an emerging leader in young fatherhood research, shares her journey to researching this increasingly pertinent area of societal and policy interest
Presenting cutting-edge findings from a decade-long programme of research with fathers living in impoverished situations, Anna argues that the desire to be an involved father is an ambition held by many men but one that is frequently challenged by the wider demands of (un)employment, conditional welfare, and social stigma. Anna will also introduce the prestigious Following Young Fathers Further study – one of the most extended and in-depth studies of young fatherhood globally – introducing the methodologies being implemented to create a more father-inclusive UK policy and practice environment that is better equipped to support fathers and their families to flourish.
Envisioning a father-inclusive UK: why the time is now to support dads and how we can do it better?
