This sandpit event will enable a breadth of disciplines across the university to come together to explore Gender and Equality initiatives across the institution
The University obtained its Bronze Athena SWAN Award in 2014 through its commitment to redressing institutional gender imbalances across the STEM subject areas. Since then, the Athena SWAN Charter has been combined with the new Gender Equality Charter Mark, effectively expanding the remit of Athena SWAN to include the arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL) - the Gender Equality Charter Mark, therefore, is effective now across the whole institution. Embedding awareness of equality and societal challenges across the institution is a vital part of fulfilling our equality ambitions, but will also lead to a far better research environment, stimulating the creation of gender-responsible research, and encouraging research that is more responsive to societal needs.
The new Eleanor Glanville Centre is a university-wide initiative that will lead and coordinate institutional mandates around equality. One of the Centre’s key ambitions, however, is to develop new partnerships and new interdisciplinary research communities that bridge all four institutional Colleges.
This sandpit event will enable a breadth of disciplines across the university to come together to explore Gender and Equality initiatives across the institution with the aim of:
Creating a vision for the new Eleanor Glanville Centre;
Developing 3-4 interdisciplinary research themes as key research foci for the Centre; and
Forming a number of novel and creative interdisciplinary research questions and ideas that the Centre can develop over the next 12 months.
Participation will be required for the full 2 days and will be limited to 30 participants.
The event will be co-facilitated by Research and Enterprise and external facilitators Know Innovation (KI) http://knowinnovation.com/. KI have successfully facilitated research sandpits both for RCUK and other universities to bring together diverse disciplines to generate novel and creative interdisciplinary research and project ideas for external funding.
